The Media Theoretical Framework and the Nine Forms of Media

The Media Theoretical Framework

There are 5 areas of the media theoretical framework and they are:
  • Media Language
  • Media Representation
  • Media Industries
  • Media Audience
  • Media Context

 Media Language
Media language is the way in which text is made to connote a meaning for the audience. For example, if you're dressed in a certain colour like white it will connote that you are pure and clean and innocent. However, if you are wearing black it would connote a negative background.

Media Representation
Media representation is shown in a stereotypical way. For example, in most movies and television programmes the mean girls are always blonde and not smart. It can also be related to religion, ethnicity, sexuality and gender.

Media Industries
The way the media may be promoted or distributed but also it's position in media.

Media Audience
The way the media forms a target and the way audience is approached. Its the way the audience thinks of the text and the way they respond to it.

Media Context
This is the basic background information on a piece of media. For example, social, historical or economic.

PRELIM - RESEARCH RATIONALE

The research that I will be doing for my fashion magazine will be helpful for me to create and design my magazine because it will help me know more about marketing and my audience. I am currently a student in Norbury Manor with students from the ages of 11-16  and sixth form students from the ages of 16-18 and this will enable me to have access to a wide range of different target audiences that will have different opinions about a fashion magazine. This research will help me gather information in what they look for in a fashion magazine and what influences them to buy one. For the research I am making into my fashion magazine, I will be doing a survey and also try to interview students from different age groups. I will put together different questions such as quantitative and qualitative that are related to fashion and magazines and this will help me understand what different people have opinions about Fashion magazines. The quantitative research that I will be carrying...

PRELIM - Magazine Fonts Mood Board

I have created a mood board which includes mastheads from different magazines. These magazine mastheads have different fonts and colours which makes them special as it is what represents the magazine company. The masthead also makes the magazine noticeable because of the fonts or the colours used to make it eye catching. These mastheads have their colours and fonts because of what sort of magazine they are and who their target audience is. The so share some similarities between each other but it is not always clear to see what they are. For example, if you compare GLAMOUR and GQ you can see by the use of different colours they have a different target audience. The GLAMOUR masthead has the colour pink and this colour is a very stereotypical colour for girls. However GQ has a mixture of two colours and they do not use the same colours most of the time. The colours they use for their magazine depends on who their target audience is for that magazine. This shows that their similar...
